IS THERE SUCH A THING AS TOO MUCH PROTEIN?

For the last decade, high protein diets have been all the rage. First we had the Atkins Diet, then the Whole 30, and now Keto. It’s a lot to keep up with, even for your aerobics-loving mom who’s tried them all. So how do you know how much is too much? We’re here to help debunk the popular misconceptions surrounding protein once and for all.

Fact: America is the highest consumer of protein
Most adults need just 0.8 grams of protein for every kilogram of body weight. Let’s say for example, that a person weighs 150 lbs. That means they only needs 55 grams of protein per day. The fact of the matter is, people exceed the recommended daily allowance (RDA) guidelines, and that’s not necessarily a good thing.  Another added challenge is that protein is found in plants, nuts and seeds (not just animal products) so if it’s not monitored carefully, it’s easy to go overboard.

Can too much protein be harmful?
The answer is yes. Too much protein is linked to kidney damage, dehydration and digestive issues. The good news: We created our blends to provide you with a well-rounded and consciously balanced product that provides the right amount of protein to give you just what you need to fuel your body. When in doubt, it’s always helpful to speak to a registered dietitian about your diet. Drop us a line in the comments and we’d be happy to connect you.
